(1) The work of the Holy Spirit is Christ-centered. Paul exclaims: “No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Cor. 12:3). “God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ ” (Gal. 4:6). This is the word that Jesus had used. Admittedly this is even clearer in John, where he explicitly states: “He [the Spirit] will not speak on his own (aph’ heautou).… He will glorify me” (John 16:13–14).
